FundMeU/Trust & safety

Terms of service

Plain-language summary. The legal terms below are binding when you use FundMeU.

What FundMeU is

FundMeU is a personal-fundraiser crowdfunding platform. Organizers raise funds for a named beneficiary in supported categories, and donors give personal gifts directly to the organizer. FundMeU is a platform, not a registered charity, bank, escrow service, or financial advisor. Contributions are personal gifts to the organizer and are not tax-deductible unless the individual campaign explicitly states otherwise. Funds are routed through Stripe Connect; we do not hold organizer funds ourselves.

Organizer responsibilities

When you create a campaign on FundMeU, you are the organizer of a personal fundraiser. You agree that:

  • Accuracy. The story, photos, beneficiary information, fund-use plan, and campaign updates you publish are accurate to your knowledge. You will correct material errors promptly. Knowingly false statements may lead to campaign removal and can expose you to consumer-protection liability.
  • Lawful use of funds. Funds you receive must be used for the purpose described in the campaign. You may not solicit funds for an unlawful activity, regulated good or service, or anything covered by the prohibited content policy.
  • Tax obligations. Funds you receive may be taxable income depending on your situation. You are responsible for keeping records of contributions, expenses, and withdrawals, and for reporting and paying any tax owed. FundMeU does not provide tax advice and does not assume tax-reporting obligations on your behalf beyond what your payment processor may handle. Consult a tax professional.
  • Beneficiary consent. If the campaign benefits someone other than yourself, you confirm the named beneficiary (or their parent / legal guardian if a minor) has given consent to be named and to receive the funds you raise.
  • Stripe Connect terms.Payouts and chargeback handling are governed by Stripe's Connect terms. Final liability for chargebacks generally sits with the organizer per those terms.
  • Not legal, tax, or financial advice. Nothing on FundMeU is legal, tax, or financial advice. Where these terms reference legal or tax matters, they are descriptive of how we operate, not advice you should rely on for your own situation.

Who can use FundMeU

Account holders must be 18 or older and US-based at MVP. Each organizer must complete Stripe Connect Express identity verification before receiving payouts. Donors do not need an account to give.

Acceptable use

You may use FundMeU only for personal-cause fundraising in categories FundMeU supports. Prohibited content, excluded categories, and operator-review triggers are documented in our prohibited content policy. Violations result in campaign hold, suspension, or removal at operator discretion.

Money handling

All donations are processed through Stripe Connect. Funds are held until the organizer's payout account is verified, then released on a 7-day rolling schedule. Per-donation and total caps apply while verification is pending. Fees are documented in the fees policy.

Refunds and chargebacks

Refund procedure is documented in the refund policy. Stripe's terms govern chargeback handling on the connected-account side; FundMeU facilitates communication during disputes.

Disclaimers

FundMeU verifies the organizer's payout account. FundMeU does not verify medical claims, family relationships, news events, talent, scholarships, or competition outcomes. Donors give based on the organizer's account; we make no warranty as to the success of any specific campaign or the truthfulness of any specific story.

The platform is provided as-is. To the extent permitted by law, FundMeU disclaims warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. You may close your account at any time; balances in pending payouts will be processed per Stripe's payout schedule.

Changes

We will post material changes to these terms on this page and notify active organizers by email when changes affect ongoing campaigns. Continued use of the platform after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
